McCausland or McAuslan in NC

Looking for a connection between Mott family and McCausland/McAuslin family in New Hanover County, NC. Wm. C. Mott, b. 1801, married Mary M., b. 1809. Haven't been able to find Mary's maiden name, but wonder if it could have been McCausland as she and Wm. C. had a son whose name was John Mack Mott. Could the Mack be from McCausland? I have been told that another relative was named David McCausland Mott, but have not been able to verify that. There was a John McAuslin in New Hanover County in 1852 who witnessed a deed for land adjoining land owned by a Mott. Any info will be appreciated!!
