Hello Jone. Thank you for your reply to my Elizabeth (McChesney) Farnam post. Are you related to Robert McChesney (1782-1839) ? My answers to your 3 simple questions are a bit lengthy. Please bear with me as I include a few sources I discovered along the way, and possibly more information than you wanted to know : )
My gggg grandfather Robert McChesney (1782-1839) was born in America according to his daughter Christina (McChesney) Arnold's New York death certificate. No town, county, or state is given in regards to Robert's place of birth, only America from this record. I don't know his date of birth. However, some people use his baptism date 21 April 1782. His baptism date (not his date of birth) is recorded in the Schaghticoke Dutch Reformed Church Records, Rensselaer County, New York. The baptisims have been transcribed in alphabetical order and are online at the Renesselaer Co., NY GenWeb website http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrensse/sdrcbm.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrensse/sdrcbm.htm (His parents John McChesney & Elizabeth Hogle are also named)
I have a photograph of Robert & wife Nancy (Bellinger) McChesney's tombstones taken within the last 1-2 yrs. Robert's is inscribed.....
Robert McChesney
Died May 21, 1839
age 57 yr
1 mo
If one were to use the information from his tombstone and simple math, Robert's estimated date of birth would be 21 April 1782. The same as his batpism date. Is the information inscribed on his tombstone a coincidence? Or did the informant determine his date of birth from his baptism record? I've pondered this for a long while and arrived at the conclusion that more than likely a combination of both. Or estimated born abt April 1782 without knowing the number of days he lived, but along with the number of years and 1 month.
Robert is the son of John McChesney (1752-1814) & Elizabeth (Hogle) McChesney (1758-1813). His parents John & Elizabeth are buried at the Herkimer Homestead Cemetery, Danube, Herkimer County, New York. I have a photograph of their cemetery markers also taken in 2006.
The following information I have for their children is from the book The McChesney Family of Rensselaer County, New York , by Paul W. Prindle, with additions by Katherine E. Schultz. Pages 29-30.

Jone, I welcome your and others corrections and/or additions, additional sources, etc. Does anyone know if a Bible record exists for this family?
I paid for and have a photocopy of John McChesney's 1814 will from the Herkimer County Surroagate Court, New York. The copy is faint. Combined with the handwritting/spelling of the era (and the original writer) it's a real challenge to decipher and transcribe. Many of the legal terms are repeated over and over with one line and/or paragraph leading into another and is difficult to distinguish between the sentences and paragraphs considering all the children mentioned in John's will. I set it aside (and my magnifying glass) last fall 2006, and hope to resume transcribing it in 2007. Once this task is completed I plan to post it here at GenForum. I would consider the first 2 serious commited volunteers to assist me in deciphering and transcribing this will. Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested.
I hope this answers your questions Jone. I anticipate and look forward to sharing and exchanging more with you and others.
Sincerely,
Karen
