I believe McClarney was a Scotch-Irish origin surname. My great great grandfather Tandy B. McClarney had his name spelled as McClarney in the Orange Co, VA personal property tax list and in the 1850 Orange Co, VA Census. It was spelled McClary and McCleary in future spellings.
My Maiden name has also been spelled McCleary and McClary - but began as McClarney with my great, great grandfather.
