I descend from Robert Allen, Sr., (circa 1715-1790), who died in Augusta Co., VA. He had a daughter, Mary, who I am 95% certain married Hugh Allen, died 1801 in Augusta Co., VA.

I don't know too much about their son John McClary, but will study what you have stated.

I do know quite a bit about their son Robert McClary who changed the spelling of the name to McLarry and who went to Adair Co., KY and then on to TX (mainly Fannin & Collin Counties).

I have recently discovered quite a bit about their son, Hugh McAlary who married Elizabeth Walker. He may have married twice. There was a 20 years gap in the ages
of two sets of children. Hugh and his descendants were first in KY, then in Clark Co., IN and later in McDonough Co., IL. This branch preferred the spelling McAlary.

The above-mention Hugh McAlary has a very close relationship with Allen McAlary who married Malinda Davis in Clark Co., IN on August 22, 1833. Hugh McAlary was listed in the 1850 census for McDonough Co., IL, age 69, born VA. Melinda was not listed with him. I cannot find Allen McAlary or Melinda in the 1850 census. Hugh McAlary apparently died before the 1860 census. Melinda McAlary appears in the household of Samuel Roy McAlary, a probable son, in the 1860 census. Two of Hugh McAlary's young children (Elizabeth and Emily) were in Samuel Roy McAlary's household in the 1860 census.

Hugh McAlary was listed in the 1850 census for McDonough Co., IL, age 69, born VA. Also listed in his household was Elizabeth and Emily McAlary (and other McAlarys).

Hugh Allen McAlary and Melinda had three children, Samuel Roy McAlary, Elizabeth McAlary and Emily McAlary. I cannot explain why Melinda was not listed with Hugh McAlary in the 1850 census. Allen McAlary was listed in the 1840 census for Clark Co., IN, with a wife and 1 male age 0-4 and 1 female age 5-9 and I cannot find Hugh McAlary listed anywhere in the 1840 census. I think the female was Elizabeth McAlary from the 1850 and 1860 census for McDonough Co., IL and the male was Samuel Roy Allen. After the 1840 census they had another daughter named Emily.

I have just begun reserach Samuel McClary and his wife Jane Dalhouse/Dollhouse. This branch we to KY and they to Brown Co., IN.

Bob Allen
