Am looking for info on George McCloskey (my g.g.g. grandfather) of Killumaght. George was brother to Patrick McCloskey who emigrated to New York with Ellen Hasson in 1808. (Patrick was the father of Cardinal McCloskey). George was a shoemaker and he married in 1811 ?Mary? Douglas from Dungiven. She died in 1820's at a young age leaving I believe 5 young children - John b late 1812/early 1813 - my g.g.grandfather - who remained at the home place; Hugh McCloskey b 1814 who emigrated to New Orleans,became a leading businessman and married Elizabeth McIntyre and on her death a widow, Alice Hartford (nee grant), Catherine b1817 known as Kitty, who married John McCloskey of Oville and brought up their family in Main St, Dungiven. After their Children - Richard b 1844, George b 1845, John, Hugh b 1853, Patrick, Bernard, Henry, Joseph b 1854 emigrated to New Orleans, the parents followed all eventually , Henry date of birth unknown who emigrated to Philadelphia. I know he was still alive in 1873 -as his brother Hugh left monies to him in his will, which was made just before he died. Finally a girl name unknown - possibly she died young.
