I just learned that my gt-grandmother's cousin, Patrick Campbell of Ballymonie townland, Dungiven area (now Foreglen), was a cousin to Cardinal John McCloskey. I do not know exactly how he links in, except that his mother was Mary McCloskey, and her father was Edward McCloskey, d. 1865. When I visited Dungiven in March 2005, the local historians I spoke with said "Oh, those are the Shoemaker McCloskeys." Your reference to the trade of shoemaker in your line makes me wonder if there's a link between the Killumaght McCloskeys and the Ballymonie McCloskeys. The townlands are only a short distance apart.

There's a fellow in NSW Australia who links in this mix also, but I have not been able to locate a valid email. He had a well-regard McCloskey website, but it is no longer active. Would be very interested in anything you find.
