First all these families had relatives living in Emmitsburg MD and were connected to Mount St Mary's college. Rev John McCloskey was the Vice president of Mount St Mary's during the Civil War. I believe he was the Cardinal's nephew.
With that, my great grandfather was Jacob Myers. He was the business partner of James Ryan who was married to Mary McCloskey. Mary was the sister of Cardinal John McCloskey. Jacob's wife, who was my great grandmother, was related to the McCloskeys.
The McClokseys are all buried at St Josephs and no one that I know of has any records. The church burned and the records burned with it. Although the stones are still there and it's well marked. The people at Fairview which is next door cut the grass and send the bill Downtown to the Bishop.
The Cardinal had a brother named Bishop William McCloskey of Louisville Kentucky. James Ryan's brother was Bishop Stephen V Ryan of Buffalo NY.
Everyone seems to be connected to Rev John Breckinridge of Emmitsburg who was the cousin of Vice President John Cabell Breckinridge later CSA General John Cabell Brackinridge.
At this point I am not sure who Jane is. I will have to visit the cemetery and see if she is buried with the Ryans and McCloskeys.
James Ryan was killed by a horse on April 14 1887 and his obituary said he and his daughter had tickets to Ireland for the following week to visit relatives in Ireland. The relatives were not named.
