Mary,
Mc is nothing more than an abbreviation for Mac meaning
"son of". My name has evolved from Mac Cluskie to Mac Cluskey to McCluskey To McClusky. I have letters from
ancestors(from Scotland) with all these ways of spelling the name, MacCluskie,McClusky, etc. McClusky is a sept of Clan Donald, Lord of the Isles. These are the islands between Scotland and Ireland so there was considerable migration between the two. My point is that the name can be either Scottish or Irish or both!! Today the name is found in both countries.
