My Father worked in Dexter around 1908. He was the son of Jesse Allen Moore, son of Jesse Allen Moore, Sr and his 2d wife, Sarah [Hayes] McColgin Vaughn.

John McColgin born in Virginia [Augusta County] married Grissel Handley in Nelson County 22 Jul 1790. John, born 12 Jan 1769, was the son of Edward McColgin. John Handley named his son James handley and son-in-law John McColgin as his Exrs in 1817 in Washington Co, KY where they lived on the Rolling Fork River. One of John McColgins earliest chldren was Thomas McColgin who married Sarah Hayes on or about 1812 in KY [Washington, or a neighboring County]

A Thomas McColgin was on the 1820 Census of Washington Co, KY. He died 9 Sep 1823, in Green Co, KY; and their oldest son, John was taken in by his grandfather, John McColgin, now living in Green County, KY. John McColgin, the grandfather made his will in Green County in 1838 naming his grandson John. To date we have not found whether Hamilton was bound out or if a guardian was appointed for him.

Records in Hamilton County, IL show that William Vaughn, Sarah's second husband, took in the 3 daughters to raise and he and Sarah had 4 children of their own. William died in 1835 and his brother Samuel wrote to the Judge to request that the McColgin chldren not be given any of his brother, Williams estate and hold it all for the Vaughns.

Sarah 3d married my great grandfather, Jesse Allen Moore in hamilton County IL in 1836 and had 5 more children. She and Jesse celebrated 51 years of marriage before Sarah died in Hamilton County in 1887.

What can you tell us about John and Hamilton and their descendants. You will find quite a bit of data here on the forum regarding Hamilton's three sisters, Polley, Bethane and Emily Jane.

Charley Moore of Charlottesville, VA born in Jefferson Co, Illinois.
