David McColgin - 1800's in VA/WV

Beginning my search for David McColgin from Roane County, WV (VA). Have a note that he arrived in New London on 21 December 1811 on the ship Mariner from Londonderry. I don't recall where I picked up that note. There is a roadside sign in Roane County that says it is "McColgin's Bluff." Over 25 years ago, I saw a book in a local library that said David McColgin owned a huge tract of land in Clay County, WV. It was a beginner's book on how to trace your family history, and they used his as part of an example. Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.
