Dear Ellen, The McColgan name is particularly associated with County Donegal, especially on the Inishowen Penisula. Today there are many people with that surname living on the penisula esp. in the town land of Bolin in the area around Muff and Drumskellan. Family in this area compares the name McColgan to Smith in the US. Some people with the surname also live in Northern Ireland as Derry is just across from Muff and the townland of Bolin. Variations of the name in ancestor history can also be MacColgan and O'Colgan.
Sandy
