I am researching the Daniel McColgin family who were in western PA (Indiana Co. ) around 1850. Descendants had surname spellings of McColgan, Colligan, and, eventually, McColligan.
Daniel was in Indiana Co. as early as 1839 and may have entered the US via Baltimore.
Any chance of a connection with your McColgan?
