My Grandfather, on his application for a 2nd marriage license in 1909, listed his Mothers Maiden Name as Hayes.
His Mother was Sarah "Sally' [Hayes] McColgin Vaughn [if his entry on the application was true]. I can find no record of a marriage for Thomas McColgin to Sarah Hayes or anyone else. According to the record I have for Thomas and Sarah they had 5 children, 2 sons and 3 daughters, Bethane m Iram B. York; Polley married White; and another who married a Sneed in 1840. All these marriages were in Hamilton Co, IL. Thomas McColgin died circa 1823/4 and Sarah second married William Vaughn by whom she had at least 4 children; William died in 1835 and Sarah in 1836 married Jesse Allen Moore in Hamilton County, IL. On the forum here, there is an indication that Thomas and Sarah were married in Green Co, KY; however, the CD I have with Green Co, Marriages does not list any for them. Another place on your site I noted Nelson Co, KY and I believe I only found one marriage record there for McColgins and it wasn't Thomas.
Would love to correspond with you over the forum on the McColgins, Moores, Vaughns, and Hayes, however, I know very little on the last two.
