Jewel: I do not know where to go to get your address. In the last 2 months, I have ran across postings with Mary Hamilton being the wife of Thomas McColgin; and a Comstok or something similar to that. One had the second husband as Vann; etc.Until I got onto this forum about 3 weeks ago, I did not have any given name for the father of the three girls who became stepchildren of William Vaughn, and then two of them became step children of Jesse Allen Moore.
I have seen Green County, KY and Nelson County, KY given as the place of marriage; however, the marriage records that I have for those counties do not list any McColgin/Hayes; McColgin/Hamilton; or for than matter any marriage for a Thomas McColgin.I have not seen the 1838 Will of John McColgin, reported to be the father of Thomas, in which he names 1 of the sons of his son, Thomas McColgin, that he raised.Wm Vaughn only took Sarah and the three daughters.
I do not have many answers for the McColgin family, or the Vaughn family or the Moore family, and practically none for the Hays/Hayes family.I do know that Jesse Allen Moore, Jr that married Sarah Jerusha Jones in 1864 and Margaret Williams in 1809 gave his Mothers Maiden name as Sarah Hayes when he married Margaret Williams in Jefferson Co, IL.
I do know that when Bethan McColgin married Iram B. York in Hamilton Co, IL., in 1837 or 8; she was listed as the step-daughter of Jesse Moore.
I do have a copy of William Vaugn's Will in 1835 in which he leaves everything to Sarah, his wife.I do have a copy of the letter from Samuel Vaughn to the Judge requesting him to see that the McColgin children got none of Williams estate.I know of no action taken by the Judge to oversee the administration of William's estate, and which came under the care of Jesse Allen Moore in 1836. I do know that Jesse Moore was married circa 1824 to Elizabeth [Vaughn?] and had 5 children by Elizabeth and 5 by Sarah.
I have just recently seen correspondence that from a lady who is descended from William Moore and Elizabeth Trousdale who had 4 daughters who married Upton's in Hamilton Co, IL in the late 1820's and early 1830's.Jesse Moore signed security for most of these marriages. I further know that Jesse Moore signed as security for a William Moore in the 1830's in Hamilton Co with William dying in Wayne Co [adjoining Hamilton on the North] without honoring his contract and that Jesse had to turn ovre his farm to the Miller family - land, 160 acres, just a short distance west of Thackeray. Jesse had sold an acre to New Hope Baptist Church in the same location. There is another New Hope east of Blairsville.[I was born and raised in Jefferson County, just west of Hamilton.]
