What a turn of events. I have searched the Courthouse in Springfield [Washington County] several times. Was thrugh there twice on Tuesday [my wife's sister died and we were in KY after the Funeral in Ohio.

The signature of Benedict Spalding is interesting. Most of the Spaldings that I know of were Catholic, along with Mattinglys, and Thompsons, and several others in Washington County. Is there anything that wsould reveal Church affiliation for any of the McColgins? We will be back down there in June for a MD/KY Catholic Reunion of descendants of some 50-75 families that migrated from Southern Maryland to Nelson County, KY circa 1785 with some settling on Cartwrights Creek in Washington County, some in what is now Marion County, etc.
