Hello to ALL McColls:
The above subject is the title of my book of history and genealogy , a copy of which I deposited with the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and I am now in the process of updating same and correcting a few errors. I just recently discovered this Forum and am delighted to meet you all and I am sure I can be of assistance to many of you and hopefully you may be able to help me.
I will be answering many of the postings I have marked for reply but for now I am introducing myself by submitting my lineage.

McCOLL, Hugh (Big Fair
Hugh th Quiet McColl
(1760 - 1831)
(1783 - 1834))

McCOLL, John B
((1786 - 1870)
McKINNES, Catherine
1794 - 1867

McCOLL, ohn H.
1932 - 1906
Sharp, Martha Jane
(1844 - 1920)

McCOLL, John B.
(1861 - 1940)
DOODY, Maud Cecelia
(1885 - 1924)

McCOLL, Jean Mary
(1922 - )
COMEAU,, Edward J.
(1916 - 1979)
Note: The letters "B" and "H" are letters of distinction only - used to distinguish so many Johns in Murray Township, Northumberland County, Ontario. My great-grandparents emigrated there in 1820. They are the projenitors of the Canadian branch of the family.

Hugh, grandson of Big Fair Hugh and son of James, was the projenitor of the Australian branch of my family while Donald, son of Big air Hugh was projenitor of the Scottish Branch of the family.Hugh, a Another brother and sister of Big Fair Hugh emigated to South Carolina in 1790 where a grat many McColls settled and I have an extensive file on them but cannot be sure which are related to me.

On his deathbed, Big Fair Hugh dictated the following lineage to his nephew Hugh. He said he was
Son of John
Son of Hugh
son of Paul
son of John the Fair (Iain ban)
son of Solomon ( I believe this was Solla dubh)
descended from the ancient race of Coll or Colla known in the Highlands of Scotland as the Children of Coll or Clan Colla, Their homes were in Glen Creran and other straths and glens of Appin, Argullshire. All were dealers in cattle.

I use only prime sources and have authentic information on the origin of the McColls and Livingstons and have printed extensive information on all aspects of the McColl history. I would be glad to hear from any interested McColls and in the near future will be replying to many of the present postings.

My EMail address is
