Hello Robert,
Do you know how close to Toronto your family moved from? I have ancestors in Ontario that had settled in the Peterborough area (circa. 1823) and then scattered. Would your McColl's be a part of this family?

A family story has it that the entire family moved to Canada to avoid retribution from being marked as Jacobites.
