My Uncle Albert was the policeman mentioned and my family of McColl ( my mother was Jessie Stewart McColl ) were from Longford near Sale, there was ( I think) 13 children so I will have to check the names; but the father was Archilbald Stewart McColl his father was Archilbald McColl who emigrated and was a ships carpenter, his brother Paul went to New Zealand at around the same time. Their father in Appin was Duncan McColl married to Mary Stewart.
regards
Bruce
