In an old book of mine: SCOTS AND SCOTS' DESCENDANTS IN AMERICA by D. MacDougall, Editor in Chief, Clearfield Co, c. 1917 (Baltimore,MD reprinted in 1992 by Genealogical Publishing Co, Inc) pp 268 & 269 JAMES ROBERTON MACCOLL. b. Glasgow, Scotland, April 2, 1856...living in Providence, RI, USA ...prominent manaufacturer of cotton and worsted goods. Moved to USA in 1881, worked LORRAINE MFG. CO. came to USA permanently 1882. ... 1905 Mr. MacColl elected Pres. of NE Cotton Mfg. Assoc...1908-1910 - Pres. of Home Market Club of Boston. President of RI Anti-Tuberculosis Assoc. from 1907-1913. ...1914 elected Director of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, which was founded by Pres. Taft. (more info given after that paragraph) In 1884 married Agnes, dau of William and Jessie (Yuille) Bogle. William and Agnes had: Five sons and one daughter...Daughter Margaret died in 1893 at 5. Sons: Hugh F., grad of Harvard in 1907 William B. grad. of New Bedford Textile School - General Supt. Lorraine Mills J. R. Jr., grad Princeton, 1914 Norman A. Kenneth W. both in school (at time of article) Mr. MacColl's brother is Rev. Alexander MacColl, DD of SEcond Pres. Church of Philadelphia. James Roberton MacColl attends Central Congregational Church of Providence (RI). I did some research and found that Hugh F. MacColl was born Feb. 22, 1885 and married Margery....(no last name given) They had daughter Margret K. He was a well known American composer (Hugh F.) and Harvard University established in 1954 a music scholarship in his name. Many have benefited from the scholarships. ..given as a prize for accomplishment. There is a picture of James Roberton MacColl on p. 269 if anyone is interested. I could copy it and mail it...don't know how to load it into this web site. This is not my McColl's but hope it helps someone else hoping to sort out the many "Hugh" McColl/MacColl.
