The family of John McColl/ McCall
Posted by: Timothy Hawkins (ID *****7760) Date: March 20, 2010 at 17:33:14
  of 767

I am looking for some information on John McColl who was born in 1776 according to family records but according to Hudson Allen jr. of Austin Texas, John was born in 1785. John married Mary Campbell around 1810. According to family records this took place in South Carolina but according to Matthew Morgan McCall, they married in Scotland. The information I quote as "Family" is from the book "Campbell and McCall Family History" by Rachel M. Campbell. Family records say that John spelled his name McColl but it had been changed in the middle of the 1830's because of a United States Census taker who took information from Mary who was said to be illiterate. John sailed from Scotland, Port of Greenock om 1788 on the same boat as his future wife Mary Campbell, the daughter of Edward/Ivor Campbell and Mary Mclellan who lived in Knapdale north of Kyntire. The information I am seeking is of John's family he left in Appin. Where was he born exactly and who were his parents? Did he have any brothers and sisters? Any information on this long sot after secret of Old John McColl of Appin will be greatly appretiated.
