Hi Mark,

Are you one of the McCalls on Family Tree DNA?

Now that I have upgraded my son's test to 67 markers I find the Y-DNA results in relation to McCalls are 1 match with a G.D. of 1 at 25 markers; 1 match with a G.D. of 2 at 25 markers and 1 match with a G.D. of 4 at 37 markers.

I also saw some McCalls on the Clan Donald USA website, but I don't have that data on hand.

Yes, I did read the material about the connection between the McCalls/MacColls and the McDonalds and the Colla brothers. I am part of the Clan Colla project as well as the McDonald, Irish Heritage and Ulster projects on FTDNA.

I've traced my husband's McDonalds to Shotts, Lanarkshire Scotland arriving there about 1866 or so from Ireland. My husband's ggrandfather emigrated from Scotland to PA about 1892. The gggrandfather Patrick McDonald was married to Bridget McCann in 1855 in Monaghan, Ireland. There were three children born in Ireland and one in Scotland.

Patrick McDonald's parents were Thomas McDonald and Jane Connolley. Jane died in Scotland, but I don't know where Thomas died. He was farmer, so perhaps in Ireland. The McDonalds in Scotland worked for the Shotts Iron Works - on their railroad and as iron and coal miners.

The other names in the family in Ireland were Boylan and Gunn(e). I have not been able to find any records of the family in Ireland so far. The notation of being married in Monaghan gave no clue if they were talking about County Monaghan or the town Monaghan. Everything I have found so far has been through the Scotland's Peoples website civil records.

Are your McCalls from Scotland or Ireland?

Barbara McDonald
