Sorry it is not your Paul. I wish most of my ancestors had an unusual name, so I could track them easier - in my Allen line - too many Samuels -
Biblical name - and hard to sort out - I just worked backwards and then finally figured out which one was mine in MASS and CT. I imagine your next
best place to search would be Church records for baptism.
What would be the Scot translation of Paul in Gaelic? Well, it doesn't matter, of course, but that might be a place to start. I found my McColls that way -
McCowel - close sounding - some even went so far as to change it to McCool in Vermont. I rather like the present McColl, since that is me!
