It doesn't answer your question, but I might have a connection. My great- grandmother Mariam (Bertha) McCombs b.1895 was adopted by a couple named McCombs (don't know their first names). They adopted her later in their lives, and could easily have settled here in the mid-1800's. They had a home on Lk Champlain where Bertha was raised, but likely lived in Troy at some point. The McCombs also had a biological daughter who my great-grandmother called "Aunt Dode." Bertha later married a man named Hapgood in Troy.
I know it's not the info you're seeking, but if you see any possible connections, I'd love to hear them. I'm very new at this and am just beginning to find out names.
Thanks and good luck!
Brenda
