HELLO JANE;

MY NAME IS MICHAEL McCONVILLE,I BELIEVE THAT I KNOW THE REASON FOR THE LINE OR LINES UNDER THE FIRST SMALL "c" IN THE SURNAME "McCONVILLE",BECAUSE MY FAMILY STILL HAND SIGN ANY DOCUMENTS, BY PUTTING THE SMALL "c" AT THE TOP OF THE "M" AND UNDERLINING IT WITH ONE LINE.
AND NOW HERE IS WHY I BELIEVE THAT WAS DONE AND STILL IS DONE BY MY FAMILY,IS THAT THE "A" WAS DROPPED FROM THE SURNAME "MAC CONVILLE" WHICH IS THE WAY "McCONVILLE" IS SPELT ON ANY GENEALOGY WEBSITES FOR THE COUNTRY OF IRELAND AND SOME OLD CENSUS DOCUMENTS FOR IRELAND MAY ALSO HAVE IT SPELT BOTH WAYS. AND SOME GENEALOGY WEBSITES FOR THE "U.S.A. HAVE THE SURNAME "McCONVILLE" SPELT AS "MacCONVILLE" ONLY WHEN YOU USE THEM TO RESEARCH YOUR FAMILIES ANCESTORY AND FIND THE " McCONVILLE FAMILY CREST AND MOTTO". THE "McCONVILLE "FAMILY MOTTO IN LATIN IS " AGE IN AETERNUM " WHICH TRANSLATE TO ENGLISH AS "DO WHAT WILL BE FOREVER".

BEST REGARDS;
MICHAEL A.McCONVILLE
