I was told by a historian that Judge James McCool never saw McCool, Mississippi--even though it was named for him.
McCool Junction is in Nebraska. It officially became a town in 1887. It was named for D. McCool, general manager of the Kansas City and Omaha Railroad. The area was known as Niota (1870s) before the railroad showed up in 1886.
I have a book outlining the history of the town. Let me know if you want to know anything. No McCools are mentioned, other than the railroad manager.
