Hezekiah is in my lineage. He supposedly came from Scotland as British soldier in revolutionary war. Married Dorcas Riggs in 1825, is buried with her in unmarked graves in Hickman-Riggs cemetery in Maribel, NC (Pamlico County) My great-great grandfather, Joseph, was his son or grandson have not determined. Joseph McCotter owned a plantation in Pamlico County. His daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, was my great-grandmother. She was born on that plantation and her life was saved by a 17 year old slave when the Yankees came.As a matter of record, Joseph lost his plantation due to heavy mortgage placed on it to keep the family of a newly purchased slave together. When the was was over, debts were called in and he could not pay even though in 1860, he was well-off, owning 400 acres and 19 slaves according to the record books.I am trying to find information on Joseph's burial site as well as Hezekiah McCotter's birthplace. My relatives all think he was Scottish, but, apparently, the name is Irish
