Bill - I'm in contact with a couple of McCourtney researchers - and if I'm remembering correctly - one of them descends from Alexander and Comfort. Let me check.
FGS is a family group sheet. It lists the names and info on the descendants of a couple. I uploaded you one on John and Hannah McCourtney. It should open for you in any wordprocessing program. Let me know if it doesn't.
I'll double check the number of kids I have for the couples and let you know.
About your grandmother - some of what she has told you is probably correct but it sounds like the time frame is off. There is no way anyone got married in MO is 1760. You'll have to check the east coast for anything that early. But, she could be right about him being from Scotland/Ireland. I did a search and came up with McCourtney's back in the 1600's there.
I've been working on the daughters of John and Hannah - Jeanie/Jenny and Susannah. Not coming up with much. But I'll fill you in on what I have found in another FGS.
Have you dug around Shelby Co, KY much? I can't place any of them before 1795-1801 when the records show them there.
Good Luck! Stay in contact. Later... Mar
