I cannot confirm the name origin. It is my understanding John McCroskey was born in Ayr, Scotland, south west Scotland. Born in 1680. Some records indicate he may have been born in Antrim, Ireland. He married Elisabeth Gay in Antrim Ireland, had 9 kids and came to the US in 1730.
