James or John McCroskey?

I'm a little fuzzy on some of the history of the McCroskey family. I seem to recall the US origin was from 2 brothers coming from Scotland, James and John McCroskey. One was in the Virginia area and another established roots in Oregon/Washington area. I cannot seem to find anything about James. I am wondering if I may have some of the details mixed up. Possibly that John was the original that came from Scotland and he did have several children, one named John and another named James. Possibly one of these siblings is the one who settled in the Pacific north west. Anyone have any insite into this?

Also, seems there is someconfusion as to whether John was born in Scotland or Ireland. Some records show one or the other, some records show both. Anyone know for sure.

Also again, there always seems to be a debate as th whether McCroskey is an Irish or Scottish name. Anyone have any information?
