Hi Duncan,
I have been surfing the McCuaig Forum as I have (I think) recently found my 3ggmother married in 1806 Roderick McCUAIG of Glenelg. THey appear in the 1841 census of Glenelg, Inverness-shire, Scotland at Corran - Roderick a fisherman 50 and wife Catherine McCUAIG 50 and my 2ggmother Catherine MCRAE 30y( SHe is a daughter of first marriage or more probably illegitimate!! -she is in the census as MCrae? and can't find a marriage as yet they were Catholics) Hi Donald,
I have been surfing the McCuaig Forum as I have (I think) recently found my 3ggmother married in 1806 Roderick McCUAIG of Glenelg. -she is in the census as MCrae? and can't find a marriage as yet they were Catholics)
and her children Margaret McDONALD (B 1829) Nelly MCDONALD(B 1831)Christy MCDONALD(b 1834) CatherineMCDONALD (b 1835) and Donald MDONALD( my ggfather 18months)
The father Angus McDONALD was a shepherd so was not present at the Census??It has puzzled me why Catherine MCDONALD (ms MCrae) was living in this house, but have now worked it out that my 2ggmother was living with her mother and step-father Roderick MCCUAIG.
Cannot find the McCUAIGS in the 1851 census in Glenelg, so have looked in Canada and found Roderick McCUAIG buried in Quebec with his sister Mary and a John McCuaig??
My Roderick was born abt. 1784 in Glenelg, Scotland and this fits the Tombstone inscription??
I know a great deal of MCCUAIGs emigrated to Canada,- Roderick I don't think is a son of John Peter MCCUaig and Helen FRASER? as they have a Roderick born early 1800.
It does seem that the descendents of John Peter and Helen emigrated, and they did live at some time at Glenelgand my Roderick would surely be related to them.
What I was wondering can you identity the Roderick McCUAIG buried in Quebec Canada?
I look forward to hearing from you
