Don and June,
Yes, I'm still on the trail of Charles McCurdy.I've got a lead in 1860 New Jersey for a Nicholas McCurdy.Remember that Charles named his second son Nicholas, so maybe this NJ Nicholas is Charles brother or even his father.Who knows. But I will keep following these leads.
I do have good news.I've had this gap in census information for the McCurdy family for 1870.Couldn't find any of them.Well, I finally found some of them.Nicholas, Catherine (listed as Katie) and Mary are listed as living next door to Sarah and James William Dorr in Randolph County, MO in 1870.I believe that this Sarah is their older sister. All the birthdates and birthplaces fit.Sarah married this James Dorr in Christian County, IL in 1866.This gives us one more clue as to the movements of the McCurdy family.Maybe someday we'll have the complete picture. This newest census information doesn't answer the questions about the rest of the family, but it places these four.
Also, I've always wondered what happened to Orrin Lindsey Sapp and have kept searching for leads on him.I found proof that he died in Los Angeles in 1945.I've written to the County for a copy of the death certificate. That should tell us if he was married. It's a small victory but I was very happy to know that he lived a fairly long life.I still wonder what took him from San Joaquin County clear down to Los Angeles.
I will mail you copies of this new information for you to look at.I'll probably wait until I get the death certificate for Orrin Lindsey Sapp and send it all at once.
Happy searching!!
Paula
