UPDATE---
Since posting the original message I have found that the McDIVITT spelling was most commonly used over many
years, though my Grandfather used McDevitt and I find that often both spellings were used by any one person at different times.
My McDivitt /McDevitts apparently came from Ireland to Frampton, Beauce Co. Quebec, then to Valcartier Quebec, then to Ontario and were in Angus--Port Severn--Barrie--and then Gravenhurst, where my GrGrGrandmother, Jane Smith McDivitt, died in 1910. I have located branches in the Muskoka District and my Great Grandfather, Archibald McDivitt's descendants are all in the U.S.I have a great deal of info to share if there are any connections out there. My focus now is to get Thomas & Jane (Smith) McDivitt/McDevitt back to Ireland.
