I am told that, since McDevitt, McDivitt, McDaid, etc. translates to "son of David" that some few McDevitts went by the name Davidson upon arriving in North America. Has anyone known of such a case ? I haven't but it would open another small research area. Trying to find my gggrandfather Thomas McDevitt/McDivitt, born Ireland, for which the first record I have is his C of E marriage record Frampton, Beauce Co. Quebec, 1840.
Thanks, Maureen
