My John McDevitt was born in 1871 in Philadelphia, PA. He married Margaret Kelly and lived at 5248 Larchwood St. in Phila. (I think that's west Philly.)according to the 1920 ceusus. That census says his father & mother were both born in Ireland, but I don't know anything about them.

I did find a John L. McDevitt and his wife Catherine in the 1880 PA Census living at 1115 Pearce Street who could be his parents, but I have no proof. I'll have to go to the Archdiocese to get that info I think.

John McDevitt is my great grandfather. He seems tohave been quite a character. Margaret's family disowned him when she married John. He and his brothers were a plasterers and painters. They did the fancy plaster work you don't see anymore.

I'll send more directly.
