Several months ago, I ran across a post on another forum that gave John's father as Nathaniel L. McDill (s/o of Nathaniel and Ann of AL). I was unable to get in touch with the poster (it was a pretty old query) to find out where that information came from. But since Nathaniel L. died in 1863, I wonder if it could be true. I haven't been able to locate any of Nathaniel L's family in the 1870 census.
