You've got it mostly right. Nathaniel Sr. died in 1785 in SC. His will is in the Kershaw Co courthouse. Nathaniel Jr. lived in Richland and Abbeville counties SC, then moved to Coweta Co GA, then on to AL. He may have lived briefly in Coosa Co, but by 1852 was in Tallapoosa Co, where he died. There is no will, but I have found several deeds where his children sold his property. The earliest deed is dated Jan 20, 1857, and names James, Thomas, and Nathaniel L. McDill as heirs. The other children were Sarah m. John Hubbard, Amanda m. James Hughes, and Isabella Jane m. David Sargent (my 3rd great-grandparents). Nathaniel Jr's wife was Ann, some sources say Ann Leslie, but I have not found any proof of that. Ann died after 1860, possibly after 1880 (I have a census entry that isn't very legible, but could include her). Ann lived with the Sargents in Chambers Co AL in 1860.
Children of Nathaniel Jr. and Ann: William b. c. 1817 m. Ann Sprewell Coweta Co and died Pickens Co AL
Sarah b. c. 1819 m. John Hubbard Coweta Co and died Elmore Co AL
James m. Mary ? SC
Thomas Alexander b. c. 1824 m. Sarah Callahan Chambers Co d. Newton Co MS
Nathaniel L. b. c. 1830 m. Ellen ? d. Lynchburg VA 1863
Amanda b.c. 1831 m. James Hughes Tallapoosa Co possibly moved to TX
Isabella Jane b. c. 1833 m. David Sargent AL d. TX
All the children were born in SC, probably all in Abbeville Co, where Nathaniel lived from at least 1820 until about 1835.
Other children of James and Mary: Esther Ann m. ? Presley and moved to TX
Flora, John C., Martha, and twin sons only identified by initials in the census: J. D. and G. G. THe twins were born in 1861. James may have served in the Confederate Army, but I haven't been able to verify that. Brothers Thomas and Nathaniel did serve, I have copies of their records. Nathaniel L. died in a military hospital in Lynchburg and is supposed to be buried there.
