I looked in "McDills in America", written by Robert McDill Woods and Iva Godfrey Woods (my husband's parents) in 1940 and found a little more information. You are apparently descended from the Ross County, Ohio, part of the family and there is not much information about them but I have seen activity on this forum about that branch of the family. A couple of McDill families settled in Chillicothe, Ohio, about 1800. They apparently came from farther east. Robert McDill was born in 1767 amd died Sept. 1830 and was buried in the McDill Cemetery near Chillicothe (p. 168). His wife was Mary ______, b. Apr. 27, 1770 and d. Aug. 18, 1850. Robert entered a land record in 1809. Their oldest son was James McDill, b. 1806 in Ohio, d. Nov. 3, 1877, buried in McDill Cemetery. His wife was Priscella E. _____, b. 1813, d. Jan. 4, 1882, buried in Coles County, Illinois. James was a farmer and lived in Ross Co., OH.

Their 5th child was Joseph Ramsey McDill, b. Mar. 23, 1842 in Ohio and d. Apr. 25, 1922, buried in Jewell City, KS. On Feb. 16, 1869, he married Amanda Tunison who was b. Feb. 16, 1848 and d. July 29, 1927, in Jewell City, KS. Their oldest son was Harry L. McDill, b. July 21, 1871 at Chillicothe. On Apr. 5, 1894 at Beloit, KS, he married Sarah E. Wrench, b. Apr. 1, 1872 at Circleville, OH.

Does this sound like your family? I have more information about siblings, etc., but nothing else about the origin of the family.
