John McDill b. 1675 m. Janet Leslie

In 1900 "The Pedens of America" was written and covered the descendants of John Peden b. 1709 and Margaret McDill b. 1715 that had migrated to South Carolina from County Antrim, Ireland in 1772. An updated edition was published in 1961 and reprinted several times since. There is no information in this book as to the parentage of Margaret McDill. A new book is now being written and I would like to ask if anyone is able to clarify the following:

In 1940 Robert McDill Woods and Iva Godfrey Woods authored "McDills in America". In the book the parents of Margaret McDill Peden are listed as John McDill b. 1675 d. 1761 and his wife Janet Leslie. The book states they were from Broughnow, near Broughshane, Ballymena Parish, County Antrim, Ireland. There is no source cited or reference to where this information was found or came from. Can anyone shed light on this and state where this information was obtained? Has anyone researched this?

I hope someone is able to assist.
Thank you.
