Obituary-Catherine (McGarry) McDonnell
It becomes our sad duty to announce the death of Mrs. John J. McDonnell, (nee Catherine McGarry,) which ocurred at the residence of her son, James, in DeWitt township, at 9 o'clock Wednesday evening, Aug. 3rd, 1892, aged 83 years and 5 months.
Deceased was born in County Antrum, Ireland, in April, 1809, where she lived until she moved to Perry Co., Ohio, early in the thirties, where she lived with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John McGarry, and was united in marriage to John J. McDonnell in February 1838.
They moved to Iowa in 1854, and settled in Scott Co., and later, moved to Clinton Co. in 1858. She survived her husband three years and five months. Deceased was a consistent member of the Catholic church.Her pure life is ended, leaving a void in the hearts of her four sons that a loving mother's kind smile can solace.
She was always a friend to those in need, not only in this life but by the many masses she had said for her relatives and neighbors, laying up a treasure for herself in her heavenly abode.
Funeral at St. Patrick's church, Villanova, Friday morning.
Lines written in memory of Mrs. John J. McDonnell.
"Sleep mother thy task is o'er,
Those loving hands shall toil no more;
No more those tender eyes shall weep,
Sleep, dearest mother, gently sleep.
Thy quiet eyes in heaven we see,
A loving light rain down on thee;
All loving things around thee keep;
A holy calm, sleep, mother, sleep.
The birds that fly above thy tomb,
The flowers that e'er bud and bloom
Seem weepng for thee, mother dear,
And we cannot suppress a tear.
No longer in this world of woe
Thou roamest sadly to and fro,
All sorrow staid, all pain is o'er
Anguish and care thou'lt know no more.
Card of thanks
We sincerely thank our friends and neighbors for their kind assistance during the sickness and death of our beloved mother.HER SONS.
