McDonoughs in Nelson and Meade Counties, KY
Hoping to find descendants of Simon and William McDonough whowere early Irish settlers in Bardstown, KY. They actually bought land together in the late 1820's or early 1830's.They are mentioned in Webb's Centenary of Catholicity, p. 64.
My husband descends from a daughter of Simon McDonough, named Hannah McDonough who married in Nelson County to Chestine Ritchie, a grandson of John Ritchie, Sr. who owned an early distillery in Nelson county.Chestine and Hannah had a daughter, Amelia Frances Ritchie who married Columbus Taylor Sipes, my husband's great grandparents. They were members of St. Martin of Tours in Flaherty, Meade County, KY.
Hannah and her family moved from Nelson County to Meade County in the late 1840's along with her brothers Michael and Martin McDonough. It is believed that an orphan child of her sister, Bridget McDonough, who married John Collins in 1840 in Nelson County was a member of Michael McDonough and wife, Ann Priscilla Peak McDonough's household in Meade County, KY.
Martin McDonough married Rosella Flaherty in 1846 in Nelson County and had children recorded in St. Martin's records in Flaherty, Ky, Meade County.
In Nelson County, the McDonoughs intermarried into the Flaherty and the Whelan families, other families who also moved over to Meade County.
Simon's supposed brother, William McDonough, married Margaret Whelan. He died in Nelson County about 1862.His wife, Margaret, had already died as she is not mentioned as an heir in the division of his estate. His three children who survived him were named Patrick Henry, Rosalia and Martha, who married Adam Ritchie.William McDonough's inventory was quite large, at least 4 pages.
I would very much like to share information with other descendants of these McDonough families.
