John, we're first cousins. My father George Vincent McGarry (died May 1999) was your Dad's brother.I remember you Dad well (I was a child last time I saw him). I vaguely remember you and your siblings on our annual 'pilgrimages' from London to Liverpool. The 'Titanic' story may be a bit exagerated. Our grandmother's (Hughes) mother was born aboard a ship sailing from Germany - her parents were German. Our fathers half brother William (Billy) was indeed a jockey. He married the daughter of his Frenchboss who owned race horses.
They lived in Casablanca.I have been told that Billy was a translator for the American forces during the war.His wife left him and took their daughter to the States. Our Auntie Winn tried to contact them when Billy died shortly after moving back to England but was unable to do so. I would love to contact this cousin of ours.I believe her name is Pamela or Madge or both - or maybe her mother's name was Madge.I am in touch with our cousin Brenda McGough (Agnes' daughter), and also our Auntie Kath - who probably knows a lot more about the McGarrys.
I wish I had paid more attention to the wonderful stories our Grandmother used to tell about the McGarrys and the Hughes!
