Dear all,
I am looking for information on this scholar:
The English form of his name would be James S. McGarry; or maybe Seumas S. McGarry.

Around 1914-1922 He studied Old, Middle and Modern Irish under Dr Rev W.F. O'Connell at Queen's University Belfast. He also studied Celtic Philology and Comparative Philology. His command of Irish must have been very good.

On St Patrick's Day 1922 he finished a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in his mother's house in Belfast. In April 1922 he submitted it. His thesis consisted of 3 thick books (4 volumes; volumes 1 and 4 bound together) of an Irish Medical Manuscript of the 16th century from the Library of Trinity College Dublin. This very substantial work contained an introduction about the history of Irish medicine, a key to manuscript abbreviations, and a transcription as well as translation into English of this lengthy text. The thesis was bound by R. Carswell and Son Ltd, Queen St., Belfast.

His thesis was never published; there are probably only two sets of copies extant. To my knowledge he did not publish any articles or other books in this field, at least I could not find his name anywhere.
Can any of you maybe remember family stories about this Irish scholar? What happened to him? We have a copy of his doctoral thesis in our Library (it was the copy sent to the external examiner, Torna). It is a wonderful work. We would like to make it available, but since it has never been published, the copyright would be with his heirs.

If you have any information, pleae email me.

Many thanks.
