I'm trying to trace Irish records of an ancestor called John McGarry, who emigrated from Co Sligo or Co Leitrim, in Ireland, to Airdrie in Scotland. He was born in 1829 or 1830, and he was in the 1851 Scotland census as a lodger with a woman called Margaret Riddell in Airdrie, who had previously been married to a man called Moffatt. John McGarry and Margaret Riddell later married and had children: Margaret (Maggie), Patrick (who died young), Andrew, Jane, Mary and Sarah. I believe that John McGarry's parents were John McGarry and Catherine B. They were not Catholic, which is why I can't find them on the Irish Roots website. In the 1851 Scottish census John McGarry gave his profession as Ironstone Main and in subsequent censuses, he said that he was a coal miner. I'd really be grateful for any information. I also have a birth certificate for an Andrew McGarry, who is not my relative. My Andrew McGarry was born in 1861. Whereas the birth certificate I have is for an Andrew McGarry, born on February 28th in 1865 in Dundee. His parents were Edward and Helen McGarry. Yours hopefully, Notify Administrator about this message?
