Hello Derek and Jill,
I haven't looked at these message boards for years and now find some rels!
My 5 x great grandparents were Wm. McGibbon and Davida Campbell
My 4 x great grandparents were Archibald McGibbon and Mary Stewart
My 3 x great grandmother was Mary McGibbon, b. 1784, brother of John McGibbon b.1782 by the look of the notes I have here! That must be your ancestor?!They were compiled by J & T Mahoney of NZ.Mary McGibbon married James McLaurin in 1806 on ISle of Arran, but they moved to Inveraray and Glenaray later. They and all their family(28) came to Sydney in 1838, including daughter Ruth who married Andrew Paton.(I am a Paton) Mary died at Curnalla Station, near Deniliquin, NSW 1856.So you and I are probably 5th cousins by my reckoning. There are a very large number of descendants in Australia. I met McGibbons in NZ last year(of Iain McGibbon's family) but so far cant work out the connection, though they also came from Argyll.
So far the line going back seems to stop at William McGibbon and Davida Campbell, m. ? abt. 1740 . Most of the references I have seen say Davida not davina, but I wonder? Barbara
