In my opinion, which is based on years of chasing around after David McGiboney, who went to Warren County, TN about 1824, NOTHING that has been published fits with the litigation briefs of the suit brought by Patrick's children against Patrick Gillespie in 1813. In these papers the children of Patrick were Margaret, deceased; David, Martha Gilchrist, wife of Robert; Isobel Gilchrist, wife of Samuel; and Jean Weatherly, wife of Isaiah.Herman, do you have a copy of estate papers for Martha McG. Gilchrist?I did not know when she died but it was before 1817, I believe, because he married Polly Stafford about that time.It is a mixed up mess, for sure.I do believe that Patrick's wife was Margaret Work, daughter of John.He mentions his "Son-in-Law, Patrick McGibboney" in his will, I think.Or it may have been some other legal paper than a will.In one place he calls his daughter Peggy (nickname for Margaret) and in another he calls her Jean.It could have been Margaret Jean, thus bringing to mind that Patrick may have named two daughters after his wife: Margaret, possibly the eldest, and Jean, the youngest. At the time of Patrick's death his son David was an "infant". (meaning under 21.)If he was born in 1790, as some records say, then he was 14 at the time of Patrick's death.William Armfield was named by the court as his guardian.
