My ggrandfather mustered into the Civil War in Wheeling WV when he was 14 or 15. That doesn't mean he was from there, of course. His name was John Nelson McJilton, but he used the name Nelson McGilton. He played the fife in the 1st WV Infantry, Co E. for the Union.

Ring any bells? John N. McJilton/McGilton appears to be a common name!
