Hello I am an absolute novice in terms of genealogy, and also new to this forum. I visited it--the forum-- because I was recently in Atlanta, Georgia, my original home, and looking through family documents, wishing I knew more about my family history. I now live in Toronto. I don't believe I am a descendent of the Eudora McGimsey referenced in the posting I am following up on. However, I am the grand-daughter of another Eudora McGimsey, from Alexandria, Louisiana, who married William Walthall and lived in Atlanta until her untimely death in her mid-30's, probably in about 1912 or so. This Eudora was the sister of James Vance McGimsey. I never met my grandmother, but have always been curious about my name, which is unusual outside the southern US--although I did meet a Eudora from Trinidad who worked in a bank in Toronto. If anyone can tell me anything about the history of the name in the context of the McGimsey family, I would be most grateful. I know a bit about my family history, and am happy to share the little that I know. My son, now 30 and a doctor in Toronto, has McGimsey as a middle name, an indication of my attachment, genealogically uninformed as it may be, to my mother's family.
