Hi Joe and all other McGimpseys
I have mention of a John McGimpsey of Drumawhey in My G G Grandfathers brothers will dated 1896 Glasgow Lanark Scotland the writing is shocking but I can send you a copy if you like as a jpeg

he was James Gunning who married Agnes McCuthcheon she was the daughter of John Mc Cutcheon & Mary Gibson all of Newtownards
my GG Grandfather was Samuel Gunning father James Gunning farmer and Jane Stewart

there is also mention of a John Canning in the will as he was the executor and lived at Ballyblack
I feel that those families are all somehow related to each other
Samuels wife Mary Mc Culloch born Bangor 1815( daughter of James Mc Culloch school master ) is buried at Movilla Abbey as is his son James Gunning a who was married to Agnes Irwin......Mary died 1850 and after her death Samuel moved to Glasgow as did his brother James the son james died young (James Gunning is my Great Grand Uncle
Extract from Wilsonís Belfast Post-Office Directory of 1843
DONAGHADEE
Gunning, James - cabinet maker)

Griffiths Valuation Roll 1863 lists
Andrew and James Gunning at Drumawhy, Newtonards. Andrew was Samuel's
brother.

I am only bit by bit finding out about them as Ireland is so very hard to get info from
How did you get the marriage registers of First Presbyterian Church at Newtownards ?
It is possible that we are of some relation and i would very much like to compare notes with you I have the poor law application for Samuel Gunning dated 1884

best wishes lesley in queensland australia
