Jason

My mother was born in Bangor. Her name was Shelia McGimpsey. Her father, Julius, married May Orr. Julius was born roundabout the turn of the century. He had brothers with names such as Harry, Johnny, and Bill. I remember these names because, as a child in the 1960s, I spent marvelous summer holidays in Bangor, and met these then old men. There were other siblings of that generation but I either never knew them or never heard of them. They originally came from Newtownards. I think my mother said that their father was a blacksmith.

Harry and Johnny ran H&J McGimpsey the motor dealers which used to be in Main Street (or High St, I always confuse them).

As your family originally come from County Down, I am curious to know if you recognise any of these names or places.

I am sure there must be a distant connection.

Regards

Richard Sochacki
