Dear Richard,
It was so nice to receive a response from yourself. The ice-cream parlour is actually still there and is operated by the same family, Cafolla. I can guarantee you it hasn't hardly changed in the last 50 years and the ice-cream is as good as ever.

Regarding the name McGimpsey and blacksmiths, there was bound to be more than one blacksmith during that era as the main form of transport was by horse. Johnny, a brother of Alexander(My husband Ian's grandfather) was the last of our connection to operate the smithy. He was born around the end of the last century (if like me you believe th 21st century begins after this year). Hugh was his Grandfather. So perhaps, I don't know for sure, Hugh would have been your mothers great grandfather. A generation back.
There are so many McGimpseys who stem from this little town Newtownards. It was just when Aunt Jeannie mentioned that Hugh was married twice and that the 1st family were ancestors of the McGimpseys who owned the garage in Bangor that I was prompted into contacting yourself.I think Aunt Jeannie said that Hugh's 1st wife had died. Perhaps when he remarried, his sons to his 1st wife then fell out with him. But Richard this is pure speculation on my part!!!

As I am only starting on our family tree I seem to have lots of jigsaw pieces, some seem to fit into our picture and others don't. I haven't been to Clandeboye Cementery as yet but hope to go there later this year. If there are any dates you would like me to look up just let me know. I have been to Movilla graveyard, but only to the oldest part. There are another 2 areas I have to look at yet.
There is a Joe McGimpsey in the US who wanted details of gravestones in Movilla so if you would like to look up the forum under Movilla I have posted the details there. I still havent found the grave of Hugh as yet but it should have some interesting details, if I can find it.
Until the next time. Anne
